Verdict Returned in Litigation over Electric Vehicle Battery Components
An Eastern District of Texas jury has returned a verdict for SK Nexilis (SKn), a Korean plaintiff, against defendants Solus Advanced Materials (a Korean defendant) and several Volta Energy Solutions entities (formed in various European countries and Canada). The jury awarded SKn $3.3M for the infringement of seven claims from five patents generally related to battery copper foils. The parties compete to provide such foils for batteries in electric vehicles. Related trade secret misappropriation claims were severed from this patent case last fall, into a new matter also before District Judge Rodney Gilstrap. There, the defendants have moved to dismiss for lack of any connection between the alleged misappropriation and the US.
