Litigation over KPI’s Three Portfolios Ramps Up in 2026
Key Patent Innovations Limited (KPI) and Malikie Innovations Limited have been litigating a portfolio of former BlackBerry patents since early 2024. This May, the pair sued Honda and Freeman Automotive Company II (a dealership) (3:26-cv-01503) in the Northern District of Texas as well as Hyundai and Patterson Motors of Tyler 3 (likewise) (2:26-cv-00387) and TCL (2:26-cv-00413) in the Eastern District of Texas, after an April in which they hit Brother Industries (2:26-cv-02365) in the Western District of Tennessee and Hisense (2:26-cv-00288) in East Texas. Each of the 2024 suits has been closed, and the only case from last year in this particular campaign still open today is an East Texas suit filed against ADT. Separate suits against Foundry Digital and MARA Holdings in the Western District of Texas and against Core Scientific in East Texas remain open in a separate campaign (as a formal matter) as well. KPI and Malikie filed a certificate of interested parties in the case against Honda that appears to contradict its earlier representation that BlackBerry is a financially interested nonparty here.
