IP Subcommittee Hears Testimony on Bill to Reform Patent Eligibility
This week, the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Courts, Intellectual Property, and the Internet held a hearing on the Patent Eligibility Restoration Act (PERA), legislation sponsored by Senator Thom Tillis (R-NC). The majority of the witnesses, which included former USPTO Directors Andrei Iancu and David Kappos, spoke in favor of Section 101 reform—which Senator Tillis (also a primary co-sponsor of the PREVAIL Act and the Tackling Predatory Litigation Funding Act) says that he wants to push through before he leaves Congress in early 2027. The PERA is just one in a string of recent administrative and legislative efforts aimed at clarifying, or reforming, Section 101.
