Answers and Alice Motions Abound in Chat Services Campaign

Random Chat LLC has filed separate Eastern District of Texas complaints against Dell (2:26-cv-00158), Kohl’s (2:26-cv-00156), and Walmart (2:26-cv-00164), targeting live customer support chat features on their respective websites. In the cases filed against them, current defendants in this campaign Alta Federal Credit Union, Bath & Body Works, Carparts.com, and LG Electronics (LGE) have filed both an answer and a motion to dismiss under Alice, each arguing that the claims of the sole asserted patent are ineligibly drawn to the abstract idea of “permitting random online chat sessions”.
